R+N is known for its master craftsmanship and fine construction on every project from iconic new developments amongst others such as The Cape Quarter Extension, The Fugard Theatre, 45 Castle Street, Atlantic Centre Foreshore and the Tramways building in Woodstock and many more.
Involved in all types of construction in Cape Town since 1948, R+N has grown from a small building enterprise to a very respected, major construction firm. In a fiercely competitive environment, R+N's technical proficiency, complemented by solid construction methodology, excellent project management skills, and experienced workforce, has sustained and grown the business to the force it is today.
"Our staff are key to our success - 60% of the current staff have been with R+N for more than 15 years and 15% have more than 35 years service," says R&N Director Shay Nicholls.
The work ethic of the five directors (Brian Rabinowitz, Kevin Dore, Carla Bester, Roger Buttress and Shay Nicholls) is based on good old fashioned values, hard work and real collaboration between client and contractor, which are key differentiators: "We professionally manage the broader challenges presented by the construction process while understanding our client's requirements and ensuring that the building process realizes an income stream for the developer at the very earliest opportunity," comments Rabinowitz.
Among the many successful projects undertaken by R+N, are both phases of the 60 000m² Cape Quarter Shopping Centres, Standard Bank, ABSA Bank, Netcare Hospitals and the recently completed Atlantic Centre Foreshore and Tramways Building in Woodstock.
In addition to the successful building of new commercial, retail and industrial premises, as well as top-end residential developments, R+N has made a name in complex alterations, renovations, office refurbishments and restorations.
R+N has for many years been closely associated with the preservation of heritage buildings, and is highly respected for its expertise in this very specialized field. "Rather than demolish buildings that are of cultural and historic significance, old structures are redesigned and remodeled to meet the requirements of the new function and the owner's particular requirements, with as much of the original construction as possible being preserved," explains Brian Rabinowitz.
"Professionalism and excellence are the cornerstones of R+N's business and we establish lasting relationships with our clients."
With R+N's vast experience in a variety of sectors within the industry after 65 years, R+N is a specialist in many aspects of construction, historical building renovations, new retail building, complex tenant fitouts, particularly within operational environments and technical construction challenges.
"We have tackled diverse projects ranging from the development of Lifestyles on Kloof Centre, Sovereign Quay in Somerset Road, to Kirstenbosch Restaurant, the conversion of 34 St Georges into 68 apartments and Longkloof Studios, – to name a few," says Rabinowitz.
Paul Moxley of Propfintrust, developers of the Cape Quarter, says that R+N as a team have made a huge contribution to their developments: "Their passion to deliver our heritage developments with care is only surpassed by their keenness to deliver them with speed and cost effectiveness. R+N's procurement of current technologies, plant and programming assists to provide their ingenuity in method and above all their people are what make them stand out above their competition."
"However our business does not exist in isolation - contributing to the community is imperative for us. We recently upgraded Ons Plek – Siviwe House, a home for the girls who have lived, worked or begged on the streets of Cape Town. We committed a large sum of money and resources to upgrade the home of these girls, girls that inspire us all to uplift themselves and strive to better their current lives."
"Thanks to our commitment to our values, we have been in business for 65 years with a rock solid reputation and we are looking forward to many more years of excellence."
"If we were to choose we would always be the best, rather than the biggest and our company philosophy is simple, 'we get involved from beginning to end'."
