Value of building plans passed up 18.1% year to date

Real value of recorded building plans passed increases year on year by 18.1% during January to August.

The real value of recorded building plans passed (at constant 2010 prices) increased year on year by 18.1% (R7.475bn) during January to August‚ data from Stats SA on Thursday shows.

All three major building categories showed increases‚ with the largest percentage increase reported for nonresidential buildings (39.7% or R3.775bn)‚ followed by residential buildings (17.3% or R3.231bn) and additions and alterations (3.6% or R468.6m).

The real value of buildings reported as completed (at constant 2010 prices) increased year-on-year by 13.3% (R3.662 bn) during January to August 2013.

Increases were reported for non-residential buildings (19‚5% or R1.406bn)‚ additions and alterations (15.8% or R1.058bn and residential buildings (8.8% or R1.199bn) during the period.
