Basil Jonsson was the resident engineer on Contract CY93 Module 2 - building the biggest shunting yard in the Southern Hemisphere. Basil joined Tosas (owned 30% by Total South Africa and 70% Sasol Limited) as part of their marketing division which marketed all the Bitumen produced by the Natref refinery.
Basil was the Emulsion Factory Manager for Tosas Bitumen emulsion factory where he was responsible for managing production of +/- 20 Million litres of Bitumen emulsion annually.
He then became the Supply and Export Manager responsible to market NATEFF Bitumen, Bitumen emulsions and Road tars to the following neighbouring countries: Zimbabwe, Zambia, Mozambique, Malawi, Democratic Republic of Congo and Angola.
In 2003 Basil was elected as chairman of the Society for Asphalt Technology - Central Region, a position he held up to 2010. He then became the Total South Africa Bitumen manager and marketed +/- 52 000 Tons per annum of Bitumen from the Natref refinery.
Basil became the Roadspan Group Sales and Marketing manager where he managed the sales and marketing function for both Roadspan Asphalt and Roadspan Surfaces in Southern Africa. In 2010 he joined the South African Road Federation and his current position is Operations Director.
Basil serves as a Director of the Global Road Safety Partnership South Africa.
